A LITTLE ABOUT ME

My name is Laurence Carbon. I was brought up on the family farm in the West Indies, the Commonwealth of Dominica, the nature island of the Caribbean. As children, we had to be creative in making our toys, learning craftsmanship skills (the Boys). We were also taught, by our peers by watching and doing, the benefits of healing plants. The elders in the Caribbean are highly respected and revered. There is limited government support related to elderly care, disabled communities, and the welfare system. The extended family was the model with which we socialised with, around the time of my childhood. Family members, friends, neighbours would accept responsibility for the needy in the community.

All this knowledge stayed with me is part of my DNA, making things, helping others, and doing what I enjoy. In the UK, I trained in Weightlifting, and alternative massaging therapy. for example, teaching Sports massage and infant massage to parents on how to massage their baby's. In Martial Arts, I became a black Sash in Kung Fu, System called Lao Ma Quan, and my official title is (Si Fu), and together with the knowledge gained from my childhood, I have become aware of how I could make a positive difference in people's lives.

I work with children and adults from mainstream to people with learning disabilities and special needs to be aware of their body movements, hence motor skills. Physical Movement fuels brain activities creating a sense of achievement, self-worth, warm fuzzy feeling, putting a smile on their faces and loved ones. I develop my individual or group session programmes tailor-made for different organisations, care homes, nurseries, special needs schools, and adult education. Involving clients within their capabilities and their support systems to be part of the development process makes it even more individualised and realistic to achieve.
