Well-Being & Outreach

OUR AIMS

Zodiac Arts aims to combat loneliness by offering interactive fitness and well-being sessions tailored to the needs of individuals and groups, both large and small.              Our support extends through outreach programs, including home visits, one-on-one sessions, and online exercises via Zoom, ensuring accessibility and connection for all participants.

Through GP referrals & Social Proscribing you are able to access outreach activities, for example Kung Fu Self defence,
​Weight training, Boccia, Chair based exercises, Spina Bifida and Multiple Sclerosis Massage treatments.

​Well- being Day was a huge success at the Dutch Pot Lunch and Social Club for the older members in the community.

 

Maria who lives at Ada Court explained how difficult it is to see her GP and welcomed the opportunity from Denise, Zodiac Arts GP referral instructor to give her healthy eating advice and take her blood pressure reading at the event.

As we age and our skin loses elasticity, massage improves blood circulation, delivering oxygen and nutrients to nourish, tone, and enhance skin texture.

Therapeutic massage focuses on relaxation, stress relief, and overall wellness.

Sports massage targets muscle recovery, injury prevention, and athletic performance.

WHO WE ARE

LAURENCE CARBON: OPERATIONS DIRECTOR

 

Laurence Carbon is a dedicated sports teacher, alternative therapist, and martial arts instructor and coach .

He is also a weightlifting instructor and a founding member of the Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Weightlifting Federation, where he served as General Secretary for over a decade.

As Operations Director and founder of Zodiac Arts, Laurence leads initiatives that make fitness and well-being accessible to all.

 A passionate advocate for holistic health, he mentors individuals with disabilities and mental health challenges, supports social prescribing initiatives, and collaborates with professionals and organisations to deliver long term well being activities.

 Inspired by the challenges of the COVID pandemic, Laurence champions non medical interventions that empower individuals to stay active, connected, and resilient.

LAURA DENISE RAMSAY-OVERALL: SPORTS DIRECTOR 

 

Laura Denise Ramsay-Overall is a trailblazer in weightlifting, one of the founders and long serving president of the Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Weightlifting Federation.

 A former British medalist and the first female to compete for Trinidad and Tobago, Denise also represented Great Britain in championships.

She brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise in the fitness industry to Zodiac Arts.

As a GP referral instructor and personal trainer with expertise in nutrition, Laura designs impact  and inclusive programs, drawing on her experience in strength training, coaching, and mentoring individuals with disabilities and mental health challenges.

Her passion lies in creating supportive environments that empower individuals to achieve personal growth and well-being.

CONSULTANTS 

Myrna Shoa: artist, illustrator, storyteller, filmmaker and published writer.

Jasmine Carbon:​​
​Nutrition and Dietetics consultant.
Band 8a Principal Dietitian.
Lead for adult integrated dietetic care team Guys and St Thomas Hospital.

Before Zodiac Arts was established Laurence Carbon was teaching Kung Fu, a system called (Lao Ma Quan). He wanted to bring his self defence system, to everyone in the community.



 

"Through research I came across the Gateway Club for special needs.

 After a year as a volunteer, I developed a Body Management self defence program for special needs group, with the help of a grant from the Peabody Trust.

"At the time I was working full time for Ronald Joyce (Bridal Company) in the picture above I mentioned my passion and interest to Anne Princess Royal", Laurence Carbon.

Laurence's unique way of teaching Martial Arts  has developed his own approach to coach special needs to improve their balance ,coordination and special awareness in activities'.

Zodiac Arts provide workshops for sports and recreation pursuit tailored to the needs of children, young people and adults with  disabilities particularly wheelchair users. 

 

This is great to promote inclusivity and enhance their quality of life through recreational and  physical  activities.

          Zodiac Arts: Honored to be Nominated at the Active Westminster Awards 2024

We’re thrilled to announce that Zodiac Arts was nominated for the prestigious Active Westminster Awards, held at the stunning Porchester Hall in Bayswater.

This annual event celebrates outstanding contributions to community health, inclusion, and wellbeing. Being recognized for our work in supporting individuals with dementia,disabilities, promoting mental health, and delivering impactful wellbeing activities was a true privilege.

This year marked the 15th anniversary of this remarkable event, hosted by the BBC presenter Qasa Alom, alongside Councillor Nafsika Butler-Thalassis, Deputy Leader, and the Lord Mayor of Westminster, Councillor Robert Rigby.

The evening brought together exceptional organizations and individuals, highlighting their dedication to creating healthier, more inclusive communities.

The accompanying photo is a small reflection of the incredible team and supporters of Zodiac Arts. Established in 2003 by CEO and Founder Laurence Carbon, the organization thrives with the contributions of key members, including Laura Denise Ramsay-Overall (Sports Director), Olicia Jean Charles (Secretary), and Myrna Shoa (IT Specialist), along with our dedicated guests and supporters. We are incredibly proud to have been part of such a meaningful celebration and extend our heartfelt thanks to the organizers, judges, and everyone who continues to support our mission.

This nomination inspires us to keep empowering lives and fostering community wellbeing.
